I haven’t used any of the these plugins besides Jetpack on a client site in six years of developing. BackupBuddy and Gravity Forms would four of the plugins in the list by itself.

I like the WordPress.com Stats and CSS editor in Jetpack but I’m starting to lean away from that plugin now , too, because its bulkiness and likelihood to break other plugins.

Have to agree with (and expand upon) what Jason said.

I can’t really recommend any CAPTCHA solutions, as CAPTCHA is extremely inaccessible (even for non-disabled users); but if you need CAPTCHA, I would recommend using the ReCAPTCHA solution built into GravityForms (well worth the cost of the plugin).

VaultPress is built into JetPack now, as far as I know, so there is no need to install it separately (and, as Jason mentioned, BackupBuddy is a really good alternative, and has some amazing extra features built in for people working on WP Multisite).

Relevanssi is an amazing plugin, but it’s extremely resource-intensive. Be careful using that plugin on any sites that get more than a moderate amount of traffic. Still, short of implementing a Google CSE (which requires you to include ads if you’re not a non-profit – though there is probably some ridiculously expensive fee you can pay to get around that), Relevanssi is probably the best solution for search in WordPress.
